What's the difference between an accountant and a bookkeeper?

In simple terms:

A bookkeeper looks after your day-to-day finances.
An accountant looks after your year-end and tax compliance.

Both are important, but they do very different things.

What a Bookkeeper does

Your bookkeeper is focused on what’s happening in your business right now.

This includes:

- recording your income and expenses

- reconciling your bank accounts

- keeping your records organised and up to date

- managing VAT returns (if applicable)

- giving you visibility on your numbers

- helping you understand what your numbers actually mean

What an accountant does

Your accountant focuses on compliance and reporting to HMRC.

This usually includes:

- preparing and submitting your year-end accounts

- completing your tax returns

- advising on tax efficiency

They typically look at your finances after the year has ended, rather than supporting you day-to-day.

Why you actually need both

Think of it like this:

- Your bookkeeper keeps everything accurate, organised and up to date

- Your accountant uses that information to complete your legal and tax obligations

Absolutely fine! Our support is designed to work alongside your accountant....they tick the compliance boxes (tax returns and companies house filings etc), while we focus on the day to day running of your business, working with you throughout the year, not just once in a blue moon. We do also offer accounts completion and tax services through Wanderfully Balanced Ltd if you'd prefer to have everything with us.

Is this suitable if I’m growing and want more than just compliance?

Absolutely.

What if the service I need isn't covered in your packages?

We provide additional services such as payroll, accounts completion, tax returns (self assessment & corporation tax) and companies house compliance, which are quoted separately dependant on your needs.

What’s the difference between Foundation, Growth and Strategic?

Foundation - You want clarity, organisation and to finally feel in control of your finances

Growth - You want structure, visibility and support to grow sustainably

Strategic - You want deeper insights, guidance and CEO level financial support

Do I need to have everything organised before starting?

Nope, that's exactly what we're here for! Most clients come to us feeling overwhelmed, confused, not sure where to even start and that's where our support starts by guiding you through every step of the way.

What does the onboarding process look like?

We keep this as simple and stress-free as possible.

Once you’re signed up:

- you’ll receive your onboarding emails with everything clearly outlined, this includes our 5 day turnaround step-by-step guided onboarding videos, so that you can work through the admin actions in your own time ahead of our onboarding call.

- we’ll request access to your current systems (or help you set them up)

- we’ll guide you through exactly what we need from you & your accountant (if necessary)

- we’ll begin your CEO Strategy & Clarity Call, where we bring everything together: your goals, your current financial reality, your mindset and your vision, so we can create a clear, simple plan for your next steps.

You’re supported every step of the way, you’re never left guessing.

What if my bookkeeping is behind?

That’s very common! We’ll assess where you’re at during onboarding and:

- create a clear plan to get everything up to date

- support you through the process step-by-step

No judgement, just a clear path forward.

PRICING, DELIVERY ETC

How often will I hear from you?

This depends on your partnership level, but you’ll always have:

- regular updates and visibility on your finances

- ongoing support when you need it

You’re not left waiting months to understand what’s going on.

How quickly will everything be set up?

This depends on your starting point.

For most clients:

- initial setup and onboarding happens within the first few weeks

- deeper clarity and structure builds over the first 1–3 months

We focus on doing things properly, not rushing and creating more issues later.

When will I start seeing results?

Most clients start to feel:

- clearer

- more in control

- less overwhelmed

within the first 1-3 months.

From there, we build:

- stronger financial habits

- better decision-making

- more consistent growth over time

Will you work with my existing accountant?

Yes.

We’re happy to collaborate with your accountant to make sure everything stays aligned and runs smoothly, in fact we very much encourage this so we can give you as much support as possible!

How much does it cost?

This all depends on the service you want to partner with us for.

After our initial call you will receive a proposal with a breakdown of the services we discussed and how it will support you with your goals.

Our bookkeeping partnership packages are priced based on the level of support you need:

- Foundation £497+VAT per month

- Growth £997+VAT per month

- Strategic £1,497+VAT per month

We also offer discounted rates if you wish to pay for 12 months upfront.

For additional services, this will be detailed in your proposal.

Is there a minimum term commitment?

Yes, our partnerships run for a minimum of 12 months.

This is simply because it takes time to:

- get everything set up properly

- bring clarity to your finances

- and build confidence with your numbers

We don’t believe in rushing this process or offering quick fixes.

Instead, we support you consistently so you can create calm, clarity and long-term confidence in your business finances.

How can I pay you?

You can chose to pay upfront for 12 months via a unique payment link or alternatively set up a monthly direct debit via our partner Adfin.

Where is Wanderfully Balanced Based?

Bobbie is based in Nottingham UK but all of our work is virtual, so we serve anyone who is a UK business owner!
